CRIME NEWS

  • Officer Gibson warned the public after his sister's car was targeted with a tracking device from a criminal scheme—she discovered the device on July 4 in the Cleveland area after a couple approached her home, and she was not hurt.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Brandon Ryan, 41, who killed two people in an Elyria crash last summer when he ran a red light after an officer tried to pull him over, was sentenced to 24 to 28 years in prison by Lorain County Court of Common Pleas—he pleaded guilty.  Cleveland 19 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sealed bids for the Lowell Street Sanitary Sewer Extension project must be delivered by 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at City Hall for a unit price contract. Bidders must review plans at the Engineer’s Office and meet requirements for bid security, prevailing wages, and affirmative action—bids will be opened at a public meeting.  City of Elyria

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lifebanc broke its record in June by donating 91 organs and saving 69 lives, far above its usual numbers. Leaders said the nonprofit improved its 24/7 service+ enhanced family and hospital communication to reach this milestone.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Lorain County residents will soon receive a mailer inviting them to join the NHANES health survey, a national study that collects data to help guide public health policy. Avon Lake officials said the survey will begin in mid-July and continue through September — participants will first complete a health interview and then schedule an exam at Lorain County Community College.  News 5 Cleveland
