ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two people were rescued Tuesday evening from Lake Erie after a construction barge overturned near the Rocky River+the Coast Guard said the barge will be salvaged Wednesday.  Cleveland 19 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Several Northeast Ohio police departments expressed support on social media for the three Lorain police officers who were gunned down Wednesday afternoon — a loss that has left heavy hearts — as authorities continue investigating the shooting.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Three Lorain police officers were shot in a targeted ambush on Wednesday, and officials including Gov. DeWine + Lt. Gov. Tressel and Mayor Bibb offered support while one suspect was killed and two officers remain in serious condition.  News 5 Cleveland
  • A house in Vermilion was struck by several bullets in an overnight shooting on July 23 at 3:24 a.m. Police say no one was hurt and detectives are asking anyone with security footage or shell casings (or any useful information) to contact Vermilion Police (at 440-967-6116).  Cleveland 19 News
  • Two Lorain police officers were shot Wednesday afternoon—both are alive—as authorities say at least one suspect remains at large near Missouri and Colorado Avenues, prompting road closures and a lockdown at Horizon Education Center while children on a field trip are returned to Cascade in Elyria.  Cleveland 19 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker named Scott Hennigan of the Forestry Division and Jamais Kirk of the Sanitation Department as Employees of the Month after Hennigan helped clear downed trees following last month’s storm and Kirk stopped traffic to help an injured resident—both actions show true public service—.  City of Elyria

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lorain County Public Health said Lyme disease cases are rising as blacklegged ticks migrate into Northeast Ohio. The county reported 30 cases from 2019 to 2024—19 of which were last year, and health officials advise checking for ticks after spending time outside.  Cleveland 19 News
